MAIL AND ADDRESS BOOK

Mail and Address Book
Notes mail lets you communicate with coworkers, friends, and family electronically. You can create, send, reply, and forward messages. You can send attachments such as files and pictures with your mail, and collect e-mail (called mail in Notes) into folders.

You can save information about people in your own Personal Address Book. You can also manage contacts and group mailing lists, and print address labels in several formats.

A Notes mail message is the same as any Notes document. For example, you can change fonts and colors, add file attachments, and include tables, graphics, and links when creating or editing a mail message. If your recipients' non-Notes mail programs are MIME-compatible, recipients can see text styles and other elements in your mail. You can also send streamlined replies without pictures or attachments, or format your replies Internet-style, as plain text with line markers.

No matter what type of mail you have -- Domino Notes mail or Internet mail (for example, with an Internet Service Provider) -- Notes gives you one easy-to-use interface. You can use Notes to participate in Internet newsgroup discussions and look up names and mail addresses using Internet directory services such as Bigfoot®. When connected to the Internet, you can use a browser to access your mail. When you are not connected to your local area network or the Internet, whether you are in a hotel, airplane, car, or train, you can still create, send, reply, and forward mail. Notes stores all your outgoing mail messages in a mailbox to deliver later when you reconnect.

To perform some of the tasks described in this section, your mail database and your Personal Address Book must both be updated to use the Lotus Notes 6 design (from the templates MAIL6.NTF and PERNAMES.NTF). You must also have your connection to your mail set up as described in Getting Connected.

If you start Lotus Notes 6 for the first time and see a message "Your administrator has specified that your mail file design should be upgraded," click OK only if you have already upgraded to Lotus Notes 6 on all computers you use, or you won't be able to use your mail on the computers without Lotus Notes 6. Click Cancel to use Notes and your mail without Lotus Notes 6 features, until you are ready to upgrade. If you have questions, ask your administrator. Upgrading will not delete your personal mail folders.
