To set up Notes to use Sametime instant messaging

Before you can set up Sametime instant messaging, make sure your Domino administrator has set up a Sametime server. You will need the name of this server for Sametime Connect.

1. If you don't have Sametime Connect installed, go to www.sametime.com and download the Sametime Connect client.

2. Once the file is downloaded, double-click the file to install Sametime. You will be asked for the name of your Sametime community server, for example, hexst01.datashare.com. Obtain this server name from your administrator.

3. Restart Notes so that Notes will include a Sametime Connect icon on the Bookmark bar.

4. From the menu, choose File - Mobile - Edit Current Location.

5. Click the Servers tab.

6. Enter the name of your Sametime server. For example: HEXST01/HEX/A/Acme. Note that this is a hierarchical address and different from the TCP/IP address you used when installing Sametime Connect.

7. Click "Save & Close."

8. Open your mail to the Inbox view.

9. Refresh your mail template by choosing File - Database - Refresh Design if necessary.

To use Sametime with mail

With Sametime you can see if the sender and recipients of a mail message are online when you read that message, then send an instant message to an individual or the whole group.

The "Who is Online" button is available whenever you create a new memo or reply or forward a mail message. When anyone on the mail memo's From, To, or cc list is logged on to Sametime Connect, they appear in the Who is Online window.

When the Who is Online window appears you can send a message to one person or all.
