SETTING USER PREFERENCES

Replication preferences
By default, your replication preferences apply to all local replicas you create.

Click any of these topics:

To receive partial documents or attachments in new replicas

To save space on your hard drive, you can have Notes limit the size of every document and/or attachment that it replicates in all new replicas. If a document is larger than the size you choose, Notes replicates all rich-text fields below that size (most documents contain only one rich-text field). If an attachment is larger, Notes removes the attachment (entering 0 for attachments removes all attachments).

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

2. Click Replication.

3. (Optional) To change how much of each document you receive, select "Receive partial documents," select "Truncate documents larger than," and enter a size in the box.

4. (Optional) To change how much of each attachment you receive, select "Limit attachment size to" and enter a size in the box.

5. Click OK.

To create full-text indexes for new replicas

Notes can create a full-text index on your hard drive for each new replica. A full-text index improves searching, but may take up anywhere from a tenth to a quarter as much storage space as its associated database. You can save room by setting Notes not to create full-text indexes for your replicas.

Tip Turn this setting on before you create a local replica of any Help database.

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

2. Click Replication.

3. Select "Create full text index for searching," and click OK.

To set encryption for new replicas

By default, Notes encrypts local replicas. This protects your information, particularly if your replicas are on a laptop that travels with you. You can change the type of encryption or turn off the preference.

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

2. Click Replication.

3. Do one of the following:

4. Click OK.

To specify when Notes creates new replicas

By default, Notes creates a complete replica when you choose File - Replication - New Replica, but you can set Notes to wait to create any new replicas at your next scheduled replication. This is useful, for example, if your schedule is set up to replicate only at times when you're connected to a phone line or over a network at your office.

1. Choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

2. Click Replication.

3. Select "Create at next scheduled replication," and click OK.
