GETTING CONNECTED

Setting up a Notes Direct Dialup (phone line) connection manually
To connect to a Notes server over a dialup phone line, you need both a Location document and a Connection document. You can dial a Domino server directly, or use a passthru server.

The easiest way to set up any type of connection is to choose File - Preferences - Client Reconfiguration Wizard, and answer the questions Notes asks, letting Notes create or edit your address book documents automatically. Before using the wizard, make sure you are using a Notes Direct Dialup location, for example, Home.

To create a Notes Direct Dialup Location document manually

1. From the menu, choose File - Mobile - Locations.

2. Double-click the "Home (Notes Direct Dialup)" location.
3. Click the Servers tab, and enter the hierarchical name of your home server, for example, "maileast/acme," in the 'Home/mail server" field.

4. (Optional) If your administrator has given you the name of a passthru server, enter its name, for example, "acmeaccess/acme," in the "Passthru server" field.

5. (Optional) If your organization has a Sametime (instant messaging) server, enter its name, for example, "acmeinstant/acme," in the "Sametime server" field.

6. (Optional) If your organization has a Domino directory server, enter its name, for example "acmedirectory/acme," in the "Domino directory server" field.

7. On the Ports tab, under "Ports to use," make sure a COM port is enabled (Macintosh users, Modem port. For more information, see Ports preferences).

8. On the Mail tab, make sure the "Mail file location" field is set to "Local" so that you can work offline. The "Mail file" field contains the mail file path name on the server, for example, "mail\jqpublic."

9. Enter the Notes mail domain name. This is usually the company-wide domain name, "acme" for example.

10. Click "Save & Close."
