You can select to hide (not display) the toolbars. Hiding toolbars is one way to maximize your Notes window.
1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences. Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
2. Click Basics.
3. Deselect "Show toolbars" under "Toolbar Display."
4. Click OK.

To hide pop-up text for toolbar buttons
Pop-up text displays a brief description of a button when you hover your mouse over it. By default, it also displays the alternative key sequence for the button.
3. Deselect "Show pop up description text" under "Toolbar Appearance."
Note To exclude the equivalent keyboard shortcut in the pop-up text for each action represented by a toolbar button, follow Steps 1-3 of this procedure and deselect "Show Accelerator Keys in Pop Up Text."
To hide context-sensitive toolbars
By default, toolbars are context-sensitive and visible. Different context-sensitive toolbars display depending on what you're doing in Notes. For example, Notes displays a certain set of toolbars when you read a document and a different set when you edit a document.
3. Deselect "Show Context Sensitive toolbar" under "Toolbar Display."
To change how toolbar buttons display
Toolbars display buttons by default. However, you can choose to have your toolbar display a text description of the buttons instead or to have the buttons display with accompanying text.

To change toolbar settings back to the Notes default
You can restore your toolbar display to add back buttons that you may have removed from the default set of toolbars. For example, if you remove the Print button from the Universal toolbar and then decide to restore the toolbar defaults, the Print button appears back in the Universal toolbar.
3. Click the "Restore All Defaults" button at the top of the dialog box.
To change the screen position of your toolbars
Clicking the toolbar grip changes the cursor to a four-directional arrow and enables dragging. You can drag any selected toolbar to the top, bottom, left, or right of the application pane. You can drag toolbars that are not context-sensitive anywhere on your screen, within Notes and outside of Notes as long as Notes is open.
This dragging feature also allows you to change the position order of a toolbar when it appears in a row. To reposition a toolbar, click the grip and horizontally drag the selected toolbar to where you want it to appear in the row.
Tip To quickly display a menu that allows you to hide toolbars, display additional toolbars, or access Toolbar Preferences, right-click the grip of a toolbar.
